We briefly introduce the modeling characteristics of different materials and fabrics and their application in clothing design as follows.

soft fabric

Soft fabrics are generally light and thin, with good drape, smooth modeling lines, and natural stretch of clothing outlines. It mainly includes knitted fabrics and silk fabrics with scattered fabric structures and soft and thin hemp yarn fabrics. Soft knitted fabrics often use straight and concise shapes in clothing design to reflect the graceful curves of the human body; silk, hemp yarn and other fabrics often have loose and pleated shapes, showing the flow of fabric lines.

hard fabric

The rigid fabric has clear lines and a sense of volume, which can form a plump garment outline. Commonly used are cotton, polyester-cotton, corduroy, linen, and various medium-thick wool and chemical fiber fabrics.

glossy fabric

Glossy fabrics are smooth and reflective, including satin-structured fabrics. Most commonly used in evening gowns or stage costumes, it produces a gorgeous and dazzling strong visual effect.

heavy duty fabric

Heavy-duty fabrics are thick and scratchy for consistent styling, including a wide range of heavyweight woolen and quilted fabrics. The fabric has a sense of physical expansion, and it is not appropriate to use too many pleats and accumulations. In the design, the A-shaped and H-shaped shapes are the most appropriate.

transparent fabric

The transparent fabric is light and transparent, with an elegant and mysterious artistic effect. Including cotton, silk, chemical fiber fabrics, etc., such as georgette, satin silk, chemical fiber lace, etc. In order to express the transparency of the fabric, the natural and plump lines are often used, and the H-shaped and circular cone-shaped design shapes are rich in changes.

Below, some brief introductions are made to the characteristics of common clothing fabrics.

cotton

Cotton is a general term for all kinds of cotton textiles. It is mostly used to make fashion, casual wear, underwear and shirts. It has the advantages of easy warmth, soft fit, moisture absorption, and good breathability. The disadvantage is that it is easy to shrink and wrinkle, and the appearance is not very crisp and beautiful, and it must be ironed frequently when wearing.

linen

Linen is a kind of fabric made of flax, ramie, jute, sisal, abaca and other hemp plant fibers. It is generally used to make casual clothes and work clothes, and it is also used to make ordinary summer clothes at present. Its advantages are extremely high strength, moisture absorption, thermal conductivity, and good air permeability. Its disadvantage is that it is not very comfortable to wear, and the appearance is rough and blunt.

silk

Silk is a general term for various silk fabrics woven from silk as raw materials. Like cotton, it comes in many varieties with different personalities. It can be used to make all kinds of clothing, especially women’s clothing. Its strengths are light, fit, soft, smooth, breathable, and comfortable to wear. Its shortcomings are that it is easy to wrinkle, easy to suck, not strong enough, and fades quickly.

woolen

Wool is also called wool, which is a general term for fabrics woven from various types of wool and cashmere. It is usually suitable for making formal and high-end clothing such as dresses, suits and coats. Its advantages are wrinkle-resistant and wear-resistant, soft to the touch, elegant and crisp, elastic and warm. Its disadvantage is that it is difficult to wash, and it is not suitable for making summer clothes.

leather

Leather is a tanned animal fur fabric. It is mostly used to make fashion and winter clothes. It can be divided into two categories: one is leather, that is, leather that has been dehaired. The second is fur, which is treated leather with fur. Its advantage is that it is light and warm, elegant and luxurious. Its disadvantage is that it is expensive and requires higher storage and care.

chemical fiber

Chemical fiber is the abbreviation of chemical fiber. It is a textile made of fibers using polymer compounds as raw materials. Usually it is divided into two categories: artificial fibers and synthetic fibers. Their common advantages are vibrant colors, soft textures, drape, and smooth, comfortable fit. Their disadvantages are poor wear resistance, heat resistance, hygroscopicity and air permeability, easy to deform when heated, and easy to generate static electricity.

blended

Blending is a fabric made by mixing natural fibers and chemical fibers in a certain proportion, which can be used to make various garments. Its advantage is that it not only absorbs the advantages of cotton, hemp, silk, wool and chemical fibers, but also avoids their respective shortcomings as much as possible, and is relatively cheap in value.

pure cotton

Pure cotton fabric is a textile made of cotton as raw material, and through the loom, the warp and weft yarns are interwoven vertically and horizontally. At present, according to the actual source of processed cotton, it is divided into virgin cotton fabric and recycled cotton fabric. Pure cotton fabrics have the advantages of hygroscopicity, moisture retention, heat resistance, alkali resistance, hygiene, etc. At the same time, they are easy to wrinkle, and they are difficult to smooth and shrink after wrinkling. The shrinkage rate of pure cotton clothing is 2% to 5%. , After special processing, or the exception of washing water treatment and easy deformation, pure cotton clothes will be easily deformed, especially summer clothes, because the fabric is relatively thin.

Lycra fabric

Lycra is a new type of fiber launched by DuPont in the United States. It is different from traditional elastic fibers in that it can stretch up to 500% and can return to its original state. Lycra is known as a “friendly” fiber, not only because it blends thoroughly with natural and man-made fibers, but also increases the comfort, fit, freedom of movement and longevity of a fabric or garment.

Oxford Textile

Oxford cloth is also called Oxford spinning. It is mostly made of polyester polyester-cotton blended yarn and cotton yarn. It adopts weft weight flat or square flat weave. It has the characteristics of easy washing and quick drying, soft hand feeling, good hygroscopicity and comfortable wearing. It looks like yarn-dyed cloth. . Oxford spinning is a weaving method of fabrics, which refers to the overlapping order of horizontal and vertical cotton yarns during weaving. Oxford spinning fabrics actually belong to the middle and low grades of shirt fabrics.

knitted fabric

Knitted fabric, also known as jersey, refers to the weft plain knitted fabric for making underwear. It has good hygroscopicity and air permeability, but it has detachability and curling, and sometimes coil skew phenomenon occurs.

Polyester

Polyester is an important variety of synthetic fibers and is the trade name of polyester fibers in my country. It is a fiber-forming high polymer obtained from purified terephthalic acid (PTA) or dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and ethylene glycol (EG) through esterification or transesterification and polycondensation reaction — — Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), fibers made by spinning and post-processing.
